Death toll in Potiskum suicide attacks hits 15

The number of deaths arising from Sunday’s bomb attack on a telecoms market in Potiskum, Yobe State, rose to no fewer than 15 on Monday, a nurse in the hospital where the injured were rushed to for treatment confirmed.
Eyewitnesses had said on Sunday that two young female suicide bombers, who arrived the market in a tricycle, had detonated two bombs simultaneously, killing five instantly, including the two bombers, while 46 were said to be injured.
The nurse on Monday told Saharareporters that the hospital received nine dead bodies on Sunday but that more people died overnight in the course of receiving treatment due to severe injuries they sustained at the scene of the bombing.
The source said that there was a possibility that the death toll would rise further because few more victims were still in critical condition.
An eyewitness, Abdulaziz Saheed, who is a trader in the market, said that the suicide bombers appeared to be between the age of 10 to 13 years.
Saheed escaped the attack narrowly. He said everyone was confused when they heard the sounds of the blasts because they happened seconds apart.
“It was not too far from my shop, when I heard a loud sound everything became blank. I couldn’t see; at first I fell down but stood up to see many people running in all direction. There was confusion everywhere. I saw several people on the ground, so much blood everywhere,” he said.
As of the time of this report on Monday, no group had claimed responsibility for the attack on the Yobe market though many had concluded that the attackers were operatives of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
