Wolfsburg captain Nadine Kessler collected the FIFA Women’s Player of the Year award.
The 26-year-old collected 17.52 per cent of the vote and finished ahead of five-time winner Marta and USA striker Abby Wambach at a ceremony in Zurich, She said: "My heart is beating so fast! After the tragedy of losing Junior Malanda at our club, we are having trouble coming to terms with understanding what has happened in the last few days.
'I would like to say thank you to a great many people, my coach and my teammates, without their work this achievement would not have been possible.
'I will share this award with all of those people."
Kessler's coach at Wolfsburg Ralf Kellermann picked up the FIFA Women's World Coach of the Year award.
Both said their awards had been overshadowed by the death of Wolfsburg midfielder Junior Malanda in a car crash on Saturday.
